CORNELIUS VANDERBILT

Cornelius Vanderbilt was born on May 27, 1794 in New York, and died on January 4, 1877 in New York City, New York. Many called him “The Commodore.” Vanderbilt was an American industrialist. He built his wealth through railroads and shipping. Through his railroad empire, he made much of the United States available to the ambitious people of a growing country.
