Andrew Carnegie was born on November 25, 1835, in Dunfermline, Scotland, and died on August 11, 1919, in Lenox, Massachusetts. Carnegie was a Scottish-American industrialist and philanthropist. He played a significant role in the growth of the American steel industry. He amassed one of the greatest fortunes in American history as a result. Upon his death he only had 10% of his fortune left, giving away hundreds of millions throughout the years to schools, foundations, and charities.
