Alfred reigned as the King of the West Saxons from 871 to 886 and as the King of the Anglo-Saxons from 886 until his passing in 899. Born as the youngest son of King Æthelwulf and his first wife Osburh, Alfred experienced the loss of both his parents at a young age. Prior to his ascension, his three brothers, Æthelbald, Æthelberht, and Æthelred, held the throne in succession. Alfred’s reign brought forth significant administrative and military reforms that left a lasting impact on England.
