Mansa Musa reigned c. 1312 – c. 1337. Musa was the ninth mansa of the Mali Empire and oversaw its territorial peak. Known for his wealth and generosity, he’s hailed as history’s richest person, yet the true extent of his fortune remains uncertain. His riches came from mining gold and salt and engaging in the slave and ivory trade.
